These prisoners will be released from jail on Republic Day.

Various programs and activities are being conducted across the country on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. As a part of it, it has been decided to give special amnesty to the prisoners as well. Some criteria have been prepared on behalf of the central government for who should be included among the prisoners to be released. Female prisoners above 50 years of age who have completed more than 50 percent of their sentence, third-class prisoners above 50 years of age who have completed more than 50 percent of their sentence, male prisoners above 60 years of age who have completed more than 50 percent of their sentence, with disabilities of more than 70 percent and half of their sentence The central government had fixed the criteria that completed prisoners, suffering from serious illness, prisoners who have completed more than 66 percent of their sentence should be included for special amnesty. The central government had indicated that those who have completed their sentence but are in jail for not being able to pay the fine, and also the prisoners between the ages of 18 and 21 who have been involved in crime by accident and have not re-offended should also be considered for special amnesty.
