Mumbai: Aamir Khan, the star known for his meticulous approach to roles, has expressed his desire to return to a romantic film, provided the narrative and the character are in keeping with his age. The actor, who has portrayed various characters from his debut in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ to his recent venture ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, once again shared his openness to explore romance on screen.
Even though Aamir has faced poor box office with his last two films, he remains undeterred. He revealed that he wants to face the camera again as the shooting of his upcoming project, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, which will begin in February 2024, is already underway.
During a recent conversation at a News 18 conference, Aamir responded to questions about his willingness to do romantic films by saying, “If there is a romantic film that I can do, sure. At my age, it’s a little unusual to explore romance. If I fit the character and the story, why not?”
Aamir Khan’s recent cinematic ventures have faced challenges at the box office. With a production budget of 335 million rupees, Thugs of Hindostan failed to recover its costs and was criticized for its script, direction and visual effects. After this failure, Aamir took a break from acting, devoting time to his family and nurturing personal relationships.
In 2022, Aamir returned with Laal Singh Chaddha – an adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump – alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ‘boycott trend’, it did not do well commercially at all. It managed only around Rs 129 crore worldwide.
