ASEAN is a pillar of India’s Act East Policy: PM Modi IG News

The summit of ASEAN, the organization of South-East Asian countries, is going on in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Addressing the 20th ASEAN-India Summit from 7 September 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the mantra of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. Described ASEAN as the central pillar of India’s Act East Policy.

PM Modi said, “Last year we celebrated India-ASEAN Friendship Day and transformed it into a comprehensive strategic partnership. Our partnership (India-Indonesia) has reached its fourth decade. It is a matter of pride and honor for me to co-chair this summit. I would like to congratulate Indonesian President Joko Widodo for organizing this summit.”

Describing the 21st century as Asia’s, PM Modi has said that ASEAN’s role in global development is important. The voices of all countries are heard in ASEAN and we are committed to raising the voice of the Global South across the world. I am sure that our talks today will lead to new resolutions to further strengthen the future of India and the ASEAN region.

Describing ASEAN as the central pillar of India’s Act East Policy, he said that the ASEAN region also has a prominent place in India’s Indo-Pacific initiative. Even in the environment of global uncertainties, there is steady progress in our mutual cooperation in every field. Referring to Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, he said that the spirit of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ is the theme of India’s G-20 presidency.

Earlier, the people of the Indian community in Jakarta gave a grand welcome to the Prime Minister. It is noteworthy that ASEAN was established in 1976. At present 10 countries are included in it. Its objective is to establish political, economic, social and cultural cooperation in South-East Asia. After the ASEAN-India summit, PM Modi will participate in the 18th East Asia Summit. After this he will return to Delhi for the G20 summit. India is hosting the G-20 summit on September 9 and 10.
