North Bengal News Digital Desk: The Bar Council of India has recommended the suspension of 9 lawyers in connection with the violence in the Calcutta High Court bench of Justice Manthar. It is said that this recommendation has been made on the basis of the report submitted by three delegations of the Bar Council who came to investigate the incident after the incident recently. However, it is still not clear which lawyer’s name is in this list.
On January 10, several lawyers of the High Court showed violence in the courtroom of Judge Rajashekhar Mantha of Calcutta High Court. Not only that, on that day posters against Mantha were read in the adjacent area including the house of the judge in Jodhpur Park and even in the High Court premises. Trinamool lawyers protested with the same poster in Calcutta High Court. They even barred other lawyers from entering the courtroom of Justice Mantha. It is alleged that even the doors of Justice Mantha’s courtroom were locked from outside. The court was deadlocked. The hearing has been delayed in hundreds of cases.
This incident created a stir in the state politics. Justice Rajashekhar Mantha has already issued a contempt of court rule in that incident. A 3-member representative of the Bar Council of India came to Kolkata to look into the matter. The Committee returned to Delhi and submitted its report to the Chairman of the Bar Council of India. Based on that report, 9 lawyers have been recommended to be suspended.
