Buffalo mass shooting update: Peyton Gendron pleads not guilty to 10 murders after ‘pure evil’ supermarket attack

Buffalo mass shooting: Police report 10 deaths during investigation of manifesto

Buffalo, New York, police say 10 people were killed and one suspect is in custody after a gunman opened fire with a rifle and body armor at a supermarket in the city.

The shooting took place at Topps in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue.

“It was pure evil,” Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said at a news conference on Saturday. “It was directly a racially motivated hate crime from someone outside our community.”

Peyton Gendron of Conklin, New York, was charged and charged with first-degree murder on Saturday, for which he pleaded not guilty.

In addition to the 10 people killed, a group that included a retired Buffalo police officer working as a security guard, the other three suffered non-fatal injuries.

Investigators are investigating whether the alleged shooter livestreamed the massacre and posted the white supremacist manifesto online.

Officials said the suspect is an 18-year-old white male who came from another county in New York state.

Local, state and federal officials said they were monitoring the situation and assisting with the investigation.
