Center announces Smile Scholarship for transgender students: Check eligibility and how to apply IG News

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has announced the SMILE Scholarship Scheme for Transgender Students.

Under this scheme, candidates will be given Rs 13,500 as Post-Matric / Pre-Matric once in an academic year. Scholarship,

eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must –

  • become an Indian citizen
  • Be a regular full time student studying from class 9 to post-graduation level in a government school or a school recognized by the government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education.
  • Not receiving any other central or state government funded pre-matric/post-matric scholarship

benefits:

  • 13,500 rupees will be awarded once in an academic year to the candidates in the form of Post-Matric/Pre-Matric Scholarship.

Comment: The candidate can accept free accommodation or grant or ad-hoc monetary assistance from the State Government or any other source for the purchase of books, equipment or to meet the expenses on board and accommodation in addition to the scholarship amount paid under this scheme. ,

  • Self attested passport size photograph of the student
  • Self attested copy of Aadhar card
  • Transfer Certificate (if the student has moved to another location)
  • Institution verification form duly attested by the school/college/institute
  • Transgender Identity Certificate issued through National Portal to a Transgender Person of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
  • A declaration by the parent/guardian stating that their child is not availing such scholarship under any other scheme of Central/State Government for education.
  • Certificate of mark sheet of the previous academic year attested by the institute

How can you apply?

Eligible students can apply for the scholarship using the steps given below –

  • Navigate to ‘Register here’ and click on ‘Register’ with valid information.
  • Click on ‘Scholarship’ on the dashboard and check eligibility.
  • Select the scholarship category the applicant wishes to apply for.
  • Further, select the educational level and click on ‘Get Your Application Number’.
  • After receiving the application number, the applicant will be redirected to the master application form.
  • Fill the required details, upload relevant documents and submit.

  • Application Deadline – 31 August 2022

selection criteria:

  • Applicants will be selected on the basis of aggregate marks obtained in the previous academic year as indicated in the mark sheet.
  • In case of similar qualification, preference will be given on the basis of ‘Date of Birth’ criteria (senior is given preference) and availability of slots.
  • Students applying for Post Matric in Scholarship will be given preference over Pre-Matric Scholarship.

Terms and conditions:

  • Students who are pursuing their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible. (Note – The term correspondence includes distance and continuing education recognized by the Ministry of Education or the State Government.)
  • If a student violates the school discipline or any other terms and conditions, the scholarship may be suspended or cancelled.
  • If a student is found to have received a scholarship by making a false statement, the scholarship will be canceled forthwith and the amount of scholarship already paid will be recovered along with penal interest as per rules in force by the Ministry. The concerned student will be blacklisted and debarred forever for future scholarship in any scheme.
  • The student is liable to refund the scholarship amount in case of discontinuation of studies.
  • In case of migration from one school/institution to another, the student has to produce a certificate from the competent authority.
  • If a student has to repeat a class, the candidate will not receive a scholarship for the second (or subsequent) year for that class.
  • Candidates who have passed one stage of education or are studying in a different subject at the same stage of education like BA or B.Com after MA in one subject after MA in other subjects will not be eligible. However, LLB/B.Ed/B.El.Ed. Under this scheme students (post graduate) are eligible under scholarship after passing BA/BSC/BE etc.
  • If the number of applicants is more than the available slots, then those who did not get the scholarship for a particular academic year for which they applied will be given priority in the next financial cycle on the basis of submission for the successive academic year .   • All postgraduate degrees recognized by UGC/AICTE will all be covered under this scheme.
