Kottayam (Kerala), August 30 (Language) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led central government and the Congress party have the same stand on communalism.
He also accused Congress of working against the interests of Kerala. Vijayan said that Congress has never been able to take a strong stand against communalism even though it claims to be secular.
He said that past experiences show that the BJP’s stand on this issue is the same as that of the Congress. Vijayan said that this is the reason why Congress leader and former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar had to criticize the late senior Congress leader.
Aiyar had last week alleged that former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao was “communal” and called him the “first BJP Prime Minister” in the country.
Vijayan said the Kerala unit of the Congress also has the same stand as it has formed an alliance with the BJP for seats in the local body elections.
Vijayan made these allegations while addressing people at some places in Kottayam as part of the ongoing campaign for the by-election in Puthuppalli assembly constituency.
Former Kerala Chief Minister and Puthupalli MLA Oommen Chandy passed away in July this year, due to which by-election is being held on this seat.
