New Delhi: The Congress has suspended party leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam for six years for his ‘anti-party’ remarks, the grand old party said in an official statement on Saturday. “Taking into account complaints of indiscipline and repeated statements against the party, the Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) approved the proposal of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee to expel Old fashioned To Krishna from the party for a period of six years with immediate effect,” it said in a statement in Hindi. Krishnam, also a spiritual leader, contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow on a Congress ticket but lost.

Pramod Krishnam’s repeated attacks on the Congress
Of late, Pramod Krishnam has been in the news for his public controversial remarks against his own party. He has recently criticized some of the decisions taken by the Congress leadership, including not attending the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of the grand Ram Temple or dedication ceremony in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on January 22.
He termed the party’s decision to skip the event as “unfortunate” and said the country cannot be imagined without Lord Ram. “The Congress should fight the BJP and not Lord Ram, Sanatan (Dharma) and Bharat,” Krishnam said after Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge declined an invitation to the Ram Mandir ceremony in Ayodhya.
Pramod Krishnam’s growing closeness with the Modi government
The Congress leader met Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month and invited him to the foundation stone laying ceremony of Shri Kalki Dham in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh on February 19. In a post on X after the meeting, Krishnam said, “I had the privilege of being invited by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for the foundation stone laying ceremony of Shri Kalki Dham on February 19. Sincere gratitude and thanks to Hon’ble Prime Minister for accepting this.” Responding to his announcement, PM Modi said, “It is a privilege for me to be a part of this sacred occasion associated with faith and devotion. My sincere gratitude to you Acharya Pramod ji for the invitation.”
