The roof of Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport collapsed on several cars and taxis during heavy rain. As a result, some people are stranded. Check-in counters at the airport are currently closed. and all outbound flights were canceled until 1:00 p.m.
New Delhi: The roof of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1D collapsed amid heavy rains early Friday (June 28), killing at least three people and injuring several others in the accident.
The roof reportedly fell on cars and taxis, crushing some people. The airport’s check-in counters are currently closed due to security concerns. Traffic is heavy around the airport, and all flights departing until 1pm have been canceled.
The Delhi Fire Department was notified of the incident at 5:30 a.m. after which four fire trucks arrived at the rescue site. In addition to the roof sheet The support beams also fell down. causing damage to vehicles used to pick up and drop off people
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said on social media platform X that he is personally monitoring the situation. and the injured person has been transported to the hospital.
Authorities are closely monitoring the roof collapse incident at T1 Delhi Airport. Rescue workers are working in the area. Airlines have also been notified to assist all affected passengers at T1. The injured have been evacuated to hospitals. Rescue operations continue.

A spokesperson for Delhi International Airport Limited said that part of the roof outside the old departure area of Terminal 1 collapsed at 5:00 a.m. due to heavy rains early in the morning. There were reports that some people were injured. and all victims received necessary assistance and medical treatment from emergency services.

We were further informed that due to the said incident All flights from Terminal 1 are therefore temporarily suspended and check-in counters are closed for security reasons.

It is known that Terminal-1 was recently expanded. The expanded version was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 11 this year. Following the incident, the opposition leaders have targeted PM Modi for rushing the launch of the ‘unfinished’ version for his own election victory.

After heavy rain in Delhi The Meteorological Department also said that the Delhi-NCR region There will be light to moderate rain. along with storms and winds of 20 to 40 km per hour.

Please note that due to heavy rains since late Thursday (June 27), roads in Delhi and many residential areas were flooded on Friday morning.
It should be noted that after the intense heat and heatwave in Delhi, heavy rains are now occurring. The heatwave in Delhi has claimed at least 277 lives.
The Meteorological Department advises the public ‘Avoid flooded areas’ and be careful of slippery roads.
