Delhi will remain partly cloudy, mercury falls; Maximum temperature 40.6 °C

Partly cloudy sky brought the mercury down a few notches on Wednesday, weather forecasters say, with intermittent weather activity under the influence of one Western Disturbance, a steep rise in temperatures in the next one week is not likely. Delhi’s base station Safdarjung Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius. It was 41.1 degree Celsius on Tuesday and 42.4 degree Celsius on Monday.

The maximum temperature is expected to reach 43 degrees in the next two days. Thunderstorm, dust storm and light rain may occur in Delhi on Saturday. During the next three to four days, the sky will be partly cloudy with rain and thundershowers.

Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the highest so far this year. The scorching heat had pushed the mercury to 49.2 degrees Celsius in Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi and 49.1 degrees Celsius in Najafgarh in south-west parts of the city.

The Met Office on Saturday issued a “yellow” warning of a dust storm with winds reaching 40 kmph gusting to 40 kmph in some parts of the city.
