Edmonton man charged, $7M heroin, cocaine seized IG News

A 42-year-old Edmonton man is facing drug trafficking charges after he allegedly brought dozens of kilograms of heroin and cocaine into Canada in commercial transport vehicles.

The Integrated Border Enforcement Team – which includes members of the Calgary Police Service, RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency – seized 38 kilograms of cocaine and 30 kilograms of heroin as part of an investigation into the suspected movement of concealed illegal drugs into Canada.

The total market value of the seized drugs has been estimated at $7 million.

David Fanthikane, of Edmonton, was arrested on October 13 and charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Edmonton Provincial Court on November 24.
