Election Commission team to visit Mizoram today to take stock of election preparations IG News

Aizawl, Aug 29 (PTI) A 20-member team of the Election Commission of India will reach Aizawl on Tuesday on a two-day visit to review the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Mizoram.

The Election Commission delegation will be led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.

The Election Commission team will meet the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and representatives of political parties during their visit to Mizoram. He will also interact with prominent personalities, differently-abled voters and youth of the state.

Assembly elections may be held in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Mizoram and Rajasthan in October and November. The commission had visited the state last week to take stock of the election preparations in Chhattisgarh.

The term of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly ends on December 17 this year.

The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has 27 members, the main opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) six, the Congress five and the Bharatiya Janata Party one in the 40-member Mizoram Assembly.
