Extreme weather warnings have been issued for large parts of the UK – blizzards, high winds and up to 40cm of snow are expected in the most affected places.
The Met Office has warned of “treacherous conditions” and significant disruption to travel, power supplies and phone connections – with an amber alert in force across northern England, the Midlands, parts of Wales and Northern Ireland.
