Bangalore: Finally, the government has announced the list of Gram Panchayats selected for Gandhi Gram Puraskar for the year 2020-21.

A total of 176 villages, one for each taluk, will be selected and Rs. 5 lakh for each village. The Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj has issued an order to release a total of Rs 8.80 crore as a special grant.

According to the order, one gram for each taluk recommended by the selection committee headed by the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer was presented in the meeting of the state level review committee and the gram panchayats were selected for the Gandhi Gram Puraskar for the year 2020-21.

A total of 176 villages, one for each taluk, were selected for the Gandhi Gram Puraskar for the year 2019-20, but were not awarded due to Covid-19. A proposal to select a total of 229 villages in each taluk as new taluks for the Gandhi Gram Puraskar for the year 2020-21 was under scrutiny before the government. However, 176 villages have been selected as the finance department has limited it to the old 176 talukas.
