GTA Online – The GTA leaks aren’t making anyone happy (Picture: Rockstar Games)

Wednesday’s letter page has little sympathy for leakers who don’t check their sources, as a reader looks forward to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

first impressions
I’m just going to come out and say this: that GTA 6 leak made the game awful. I know it’s all beginner stuff, but graphics aren’t what I’m talking about. If someone leaked 30 minutes of footage from GTA 6, including its source code, I’d have to say ‘you can lay on the ground to shoot’ or ‘we copied and pasted some hunting material from Red Dead Redemption 2’ A bigger revelation than expected.

There must be something in a new idea or direction, there must be some pointers, but I can’t find anything. The whole thing could easily pass for GTA 5 and, again, I’m not talking in terms of graphics but in terms of the things you do, which are clearly the same as ever.

I know it’s GTA and it looks like GTA, but it all feels so awkward. I’m sure it will still sell a billion copies, because who doesn’t want GTA 5 but a little better, but for me it was a very disappointing reveal/leak.

If I were Rockstar, I would have released an official trailer as soon as possible and put up their stall at this point because at the moment it doesn’t look like they are aiming too much.

call of optimism
I’ll probably show me Uncool in depth but I’m really looking forward to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Everyone hated Vanguard but I feel like the new game is looking really cool. It’s modern day, they’re resting zombies, and they’re not held back by Warzone because a new one is coming.

The word from the beta sounds mostly positive, so I’m officially stunned. Military shooters are becoming increasingly rare these days, given the crisis the battlefield is in. Everything is just hero shooter and kids stuff at the moment and that’s not really my thing.

I’ll wait for the reviews, but I’d be very surprised if Modern Warfare 2 wasn’t both a critical and commercial success and the best in the series for at least a decade.

long wait
I’m struggling to understand what’s the benefit of a detachable disc drive for consoles, but I think the only way is to resize the Sony PlayStation 5. It doesn’t look like it will make much of a difference and so wait continues for PlayStation 5 which isn’t the ugliest console ever.

I guess the size of it is out of their control (though it looks like Microsoft has done a lot better with the Xbox Series X) but I wish they could just admit that it’s a matter of imagining and redesigning it. Beyond ugly. This has happened to many other consoles before, including PlayStation ones, but I think Sony is too proud to admit a mistake and we’re going to be stuck with that twisted monstrosity forever. .

take my money
Single-player Iron Man game by the people who made Star Wars: Squadron and Guardians of the Galaxy? Yes, I’m sold. Where do I pre-order?

But seriously, I already have high hopes for it and I’m glad EA has seen the light with single-player games. Notably, the same developer is also working on a remake of Dead Space.

People will probably be talking about robot suits in Anthem, and they were clearly inspired by Iron Man, but the most important thing to get right is Tony Stark himself. You’d think Robert Downey Jr. was irreplaceable, but I actually thought Josh Keaton in Iron Man VR did a better job than Nolan North in an Avengers game.

Match this with a good script and you can easily play a game as good as Spider-Man. I expect he has some weird enemies in the game, like the Big Wheel and the Living Laser.

secret of success
I think it’s hilarious EA thinking the Activision Blizzard acquisition is good news for them. ‘If Call of Duty magically disappears everyone will want to play our game again!’ Nobody wants to play Battlefield! The reason 2042 flopped was not because people were busy playing Call of Duty, but because 2042 sucked.

It’s surprising to me how many publishers don’t get this: make a good game, people will buy it. Name and franchise are important to an extent but being a great game that you can play with your friends, it is far more important for games like this.

I mean, why do you think Apex Legends was successful, for example? It certainly wasn’t because it was a spin-off from Titanfall, it was because it was fun to play. That’s all.

you know the bit
It didn’t surprise me too much to learn that Capcom is swiftly ending Winters’ story in Resident Evil Village’s DLC. The new love for third person sounded very suspicious and I’m sure they’re probably thinking they want to follow the remake instead of Village, which I think most people liked less.

I didn’t mind Village, but it had three main problems for me: it wasn’t scary, it wasn’t funny, and it was too much of a straight action game. There He The bit that was horrifying but that was really everything was due to the fact that there was a lot of action and a lot of the rest was like the more familiar Resident Evil tropes.

The stuff that was new was generally good and I think that should be the lesson for Resident Evil 9. The problem with it not being funny is that the script is no longer the product of bad translations, but just American writers trying to make it sound vague. that side. It doesn’t work and feels gimmicky and try-hard, in contrast to the innocent absurdity of older games.

I’m perfectly fine with them to bring back Lyon, Jill and others for the next game, but I hope to try to give them the proper personality. They’re still basically just costumes and names, nothing more. One of the few failures of the remake is that they didn’t address it and I think Capcom doesn’t see it as an issue.

propaganda deflation
I can see why Rockstar is so upset with that GTA 6 leak because it doesn’t portray the game in a very good light at all. We all know it didn’t end anywhere, but it was all so overwhelming that it did a lot of damage to the promotion of the game, especially for people who don’t really pay that much attention to games.

I wouldn’t blame them if Rockstar threw the book at hackers. This leaker culture has gotten out of control and it shows in the wasting game and all the hard work people put in.

old fashioned reveal
I really haven’t got much sympathy for this Jeff Grub guy, who is apologizing for mistaking the Zelda remaster rumor. I mean, according to him the one thing he forgot to double check was a Nintendo rumor? You know Nintendo—which is never quite right at making predictions at all. That’s some grade-A incompetence for someone who is leaking bread and butter sports news.

And then what does he do in the same breath? Immediately claim for another remaster I have too much trouble believing the truth. I can’t think of a single time that Nintendo announced a Christmas game later this year and, as GC pointed out, doesn’t make sense anyway, because the whole point of a remaster like this is to get people in the mood. Is. new game. And that’s not likely to happen for two years or so.

I think the whole factory of leaks and rumours has gone out of control. Not in the sense that they are wrong – most are on the money – but in that they are revealing all the fun and making things harder for the developers.

If we had E3 today, I don’t think it would work anyway, as we already know about everything, with out-of-focus screenshots, 10-second videos and a drip feed of second-hand details. I through. I loved it when publishers took to the stage and rolled out trailers but it almost feels quirky and old-fashioned compared to what we get today.

Why haven’t we still heard about XCOM 3 with all these rumors and leaks at the moment? This is literally the only one from the Nvidia leak that hasn’t been proven to be true yet and it’s the one I wanted the most!

Good review of Roadwarden, I am definitely going to pick it up considering the price. It’s great to see such an old-fashioned style of play and yet still stick to its roots.

This week’s hot topic
This week’s question about favorite fantasy video games follows last weekend’s Inbox: What’s your favorite sci-fi game?

It can be a licensed game if you want but try to include the game that started in the video game as well. How big of a fan of science fiction are you in general, and how much do you differentiate between relatively grounded settings and space fantasy?

Do you think there are too many or too few sci-fi games at the moment and what kinds of games would you like to see more of, including specific genres like space combat simulators and sci-fi horror?
