Washington – Getting an H-1B visa to visit the US will now be easier. Apart from this, it will also be easier for immigrants to return to the US after traveling to their home country. A President’s Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders has unanimously recommended that H-1B visas be stamped in the US. If President Joe Biden approves it, it will bring a huge relief to thousands of professionals, especially Indians.
Under the current process, a person has to apply for a visa stamp at the US Embassy in their home country. Commission member Jain Bhutoria, an American citizen of Indian origin, suggested that the H-1B visa be stamped in America.
Bhutoria said in the commission meeting that visa holders face problems after renewing it or traveling to their home country. Sometimes they have to be separated from their families. There are also situations when many people’s parents are admitted to the ICU or someone’s relative passes away but they cannot return to their country. They are afraid that the visa application may not be pending.
A large number of people are facing uncertainty for obtaining or renewing H-1B visas. India still has to wait 844 days to get a visa. There are similar situations in Pakistan, Bangladesh and many other countries. In this situation, their visa is not stamped and they get stuck.
The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa. This allows US companies to hire foreign workers in specialized occupations. Many tech companies depend on it to recruit thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China.
