Just three months ago, two women were caught by customs officials at Jaipur airport. Both the women were residents of Bangkok. When examined, gold worth about Rs 43 lakh was found in his rectum. Both the women were taken to SMS Hospital, where two capsules of 350 grams each were removed during surgery. Which was to be supplied to Delhi.

Case-2: Woman hid it in the secret pocket of her undergarment.
Earlier, a girl had prepared gold paste in a plastic pouch and kept it in the secret pocket of her undergarment. The girl, resident of Dubai, had brought the gold by making a paste and keeping it in a plastic pouch. When the paste was processed and converted into hard gold, 637 grams was obtained. The woman told that her boyfriend had given her this packet. He was asked to deliver a delivery to a young man outside the airport. The boyfriend had also borne the expenses of the woman’s travel to India.
A girl from Dubai had similarly brought gold hidden in paste form in her undergarments.
Case: 3 brought in small bags like pickles
Faisal, a passenger from Mumbai, was caught in the flight from Sharjahan. He had made the gold into a liquid paste and kept it in small bags. The officials thought that pickles were kept there. Even the security personnel could not understand anything. But the metal detector had detected the presence of gold. When the officials got the paste treated, about 733 grams of gold was found from one kilogram. It took about 8 hours to complete the entire process. The passenger told that the smugglers had lured him with a free ticket.

On September 8, 5 kg 150 grams of gold worth Rs 3 crore 13 lakh was seized at Jaipur Airport. A traveler coming from Dubai had brought it in paste form hidden in a grinder machine. Many times cases of gold being hidden in body parts have come to light.

How to make gold paste and how risky can it be?
Converting gold into paste for smuggling is fraught with risk. To understand its process, Bhaskar team contacted the jewelers of Jaipur, but they were not ready. Many jewelers said that telling people the process of gold paste can be harmful and risky. Because dangerous chemicals are used in it. If these chemicals are used without knowledge, it can lead to an explosion.
After our persuasion, a jeweler agreed to talk on camera. He told that this process takes about 4 to 5 hours. Before using chemicals, gold powder is made. Then gold powder is mixed with iron and potassium.
Now a mixer of chemicals is added to make the gold like a paste. This makes the gold jelly like. Like our toothpaste. Then you can change it into any shape you want. Can be carried by filling or stuffing anything. Simply by making it liquid, the weight of gold increases.
Many types of acids are used in making gold paste, which can be dangerous for the body.
Smugglers adopt this method because liquid paste cannot be detected even in metal detectors. If any officer has any doubt then he does a manual investigation. Even then it cannot be detected easily unless one examines it very closely.
Smugglers convert the paste back into gold
If smugglers are successful in bringing gold paste secretly, then they can easily process it with chemicals and separate the gold and other things. However, this process takes about 8 hours. But gold is converted into hard form and separated.
How do customs officers catch?
This ploy of smugglers has also been in the eyes of the Customs Department for a long time. In all the previous actions taken at Jaipur Airport, the gold paste seized has been converted back into gold by the custom officials with the help of experts.
Many smugglers escape even during checking at the airport.
A former customs officer, on condition of anonymity, said that most of the gold smuggling takes place from Gulf countries only. The customs officers present at the airport always keep an eye on the flights and passengers coming from Gulf countries like Muscat, Dubai. Many times gold paste is not detected in the metal detector. But seeing their expressions the officers catch them. Many times information from an informer also comes in advance. Smugglers adopt new methods every time, but are unable to escape.
Why is gold smuggling happening?
Former Chairman of Gems and Jewelery Export Promotion Council, Rajeev Jain said that the main reason for increase in gold smuggling is the increasing custom duty every time. Custom duty has increased more than 10 times in the last 10 years. Then due to GST, gold and the jewelery made from it is becoming expensive. To take advantage of this, smugglers smuggle cheap gold from Dubai and other Gulf countries.
Saves custom duty and GST on gold. Smugglers earn 15 to 20 percent profit from this. When smuggled gold comes into the market, jewelers have to bear the direct loss. Everyone wants to buy cheap gold, in such a situation gold is easily sold to smugglers and jewelery traders have to suffer losses.
Jaipur Airport has been a safe route for smugglers for a long time.
Smugglers are sending laborers as soft targets
Investigation has also revealed that a large number of people from Rajasthan go to work as laborers in Arab countries including Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Sharjah. Among these, most of the people are from Sikar, Churu and Jhunjhunu. If we talk about the records of the last 5 years, more than 95 kg of gold has been seized.
More than 100 have been arrested for smuggling gold. Of these, only 80 smugglers from Shekhawati have been caught. Smugglers make soft targets of laborers from Shekhawati whose visas are about to expire. Such people are lured with a free ticket while returning home.
Even give them full expenses. Gold paste is made and a packet is given. They are told that these items have to be handed over outside the airport. Due to this greed, people come to India and are caught at the airport. Many times these workers do not even know that they are smuggling gold.
Three months ago, a smuggler Anil had rescued gold worth Rs 1.5 crore from the customs officials at the airport. Who was caught by Jaipur Police outside the airport. He had hidden a gold plate in an iron rod. The rod was kept in the bag. When the police caught, more than two kilos of gold was found in three pieces. He had come on a flight to Dubai.
In order to cheat the customs officials, people sometimes bring gold in the tools of electronic items in a cunning manner.
Big smugglers are not caught due to lack of forward chain
The special thing is that small handlers are used for gold smuggling. They are sent astray. They don’t even know who will come to collect the goods and who has sent the goods. If the handler is caught at the airport, he does not know anything. Many times the police interrogate him strictly and he is unable to tell anything. After the handler is caught, the smugglers sitting outside run away. In such a situation, the police is not able to find the further chain. Due to this, big smugglers are not able to be caught.
Jaipur route is safest in gold smuggling
There are direct flights from Dubai to Arab countries from Jaipur. There is a lot of strictness at big airports like Mumbai including Delhi Airport. Talking about last year, 52 gold smuggling operations took place at Lucknow Airport and more than 60 in Amritsar. Whereas more than 100 gold smuggling operations have taken place at Jaipur Airport.
Traveling from Jaipur to Delhi by road is also fine. For this reason, gold smuggling has increased at Jaipur Airport for a long time. Many times, big smugglers trap small smugglers and take away the goods.
