Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed surprise at the absence of leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh in India’s ODI World Cup squad. He said that Chahal is such a bowler that everyone would want to have in their team. Harbhajan Singh has praised Yajuvendra Chahal fiercely.

Harbhajan said, “There are two players missing from the World Cup squad – Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm fast bowler could have been very useful and can swing with the new ball as he can give early wickets. You have seen that. “Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mitchell Starc make a very different kind of impact. When Australia won the World Cup in 2015, Starc made a huge impact by dismissing Brendon McCullum early and helping them win.”

Yuzvendra Chahal has been a mainstay of the Indian team in white-ball matches, but he hasn’t got much opportunities in ODIs in the recent past and his performances haven’t been up to the standard. Since 2022, Chahal has taken 24 wickets in 16 ODIs at an average of 27.9 and an economy rate of 5.5.

But with Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel in good form, Yuzvendra Chahal missed out on a place in the World Cup squad. On the other hand, Arshdeep has played only three ODIs so far but has not been able to take a single wicket so far. Interestingly, both Chahal and Arshdeep are not part of the Asia Cup squad.
