Peele police and crisis negotiators remain at the scene after a man allegedly barricaded himself in Mississauga on Friday morning.

There is a heavy police presence near the corner of Eglinton Avenue West and Erin Mills Parkway.

According to multiple tweets from the police, the incident is an “isolated one” and the situation is continuing. Investigators first informed the public of the situation in a statement on Twitter around 9 a.m.

Peel police said on Twitter: “We are in contact with a man with a barricade who is alone.” No injuries have been reported.

Police have cordoned off surrounding roads, including Credit Valley Road, from Eglinton Avenue to Metcalf Street. The Erin Mills Parkway also closes north and south of the intersection with Eglinton.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.

The location is next to Credit Valley Hospital, which has implemented measures to protect staff, patients and visitors. The ground floor parking lot in the hospital has been closed for the time being. A spokesman said vehicles could pass inside the parking garage, but no new vehicles could enter.

The spokesman said the emergency department at the hospital “is operating normally and ambulances are not being rerouted at this time.”
