Heavy rain till Feb 2 due to low pressure area…Return to shore immediately…Meteorological Center Alert IG News

The Chennai Meteorological Department has informed that heavy rain is likely in various districts of Tamil Nadu till February 2 due to the depression over the Bay of Bengal.

In this regard, the Meteorological Center has said:-

The low pressure zone prevailing in the Bay of Bengal today (31.01.2023) at 8:30 am is located in the Southwest Bay of Bengal, about 340 km to the east of Sri Lanka-Trikonamalai and about 560 km to the east-southeast of Karaikal. It will move in west-northwest direction till today evening and then in west-southwest direction and may cross Sri Lankan coastal areas on 01.02.2023 morning.

Due to this, 31.01.2023: Light to moderate rain with thundershower may occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu coastal districts, Puducherry and Karaikal and a couple of places over interior Tamil Nadu districts. Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai districts and Karaikal areas received heavy rain at one or two places.

01.02.2023: Light to moderate rain with thundershower at many places over coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal and a couple of places over interior districts of Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore districts and Karaikal regions received heavy rain at one or two places.

02.02.2023: Light to moderate rain with thundershower at many places in South-East districts and a few places in North-East districts, Puducherry and Karaikal. Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Tuticorin districts received heavy rain at a few places.

03.02.2023: Light to moderate rain at a couple of places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

04.02.2023: Light / moderate rain may occur at a couple of places in south-eastern districts.

Weather Forecast for Chennai and Suburbs: The sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Light/moderate rain with thundershower at a couple of places. The maximum temperature will be around 30-31 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 24 degree Celsius.

Warning to Fishermen:

31.01.2023 & 01.02.2023: Cyclonic winds with a speed of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional speed of 65 kmph are likely to occur over coastal areas of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, South West Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kumari Sea.

02.02.2023: Cyclonic winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and occasional speed of 60 kmph are likely to occur over coastal areas of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu, South West Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kumari Sea.

03.02.2023 & 04.02.2023: Cyclonic winds with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of 55 kmph are likely to occur over Kumari Sea, Gulf of Mannar and West Coast of South Sri Lanka.

Fishermen are advised not to go to these areas on the above days.

Deep sea fishermen are advised to return to shore immediately.
