Highway 1 crash kills 29-year-old man: RCMP – Winnipeg IG News

A serious crash Friday evening on Highway 1 killed a 29-year-old man, according to Manitoba RCMP.

Officers from Stonewall and Headingley were called to the eastbound lane of the highway near Ely to reports of a cubicle truck hitting a guardrail on the bridge.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were told that the two occupants of the cube truck were being taken to a hospital.

A 25-year-old man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while a 29-year-old passenger was reported to be in critical condition and later died.

Investigators say both occupants exited the vehicle and stood next to the eastbound cube truck after it hit a guardrail.

At this time, an eastbound semi-trailer collided with the cube truck along with its trailer, and the trailer flipped.

As a result, it was pushed into the two men who were standing next to it.

Police say the 23-year-old male driver of the semi from Brampton, Ont., immediately pulled over and provided medical assistance until EMS arrived at the scene.

Snowy and icy road conditions were said to be factors in the collision.
