‘In our memory they were a happy family’: Surrey massacre victims identified – BC IG News

The extended family of three victims of a homicide in Surrey, B.C., say they were “shocked” to hear of their deaths on January 9.

The family have been identified by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team as Xiao Yan Zhen, 56, Li Li, 58, and Daniel Lee, 24, all from Surrey.

“When we heard the sad news, we were deeply saddened,” Zhijun Li said in a statement on behalf of the bereaved family. “In our memory they were a happy family, loving each other. Thank you to the police and all those who provide us with support and assistance. Out of respect for the deceased, it is our hope that their acquaintances and friends will help the family.” Details will not be revealed to the public, and no pictures of them will appear in the media.

Homicide investigators were called Monday to the Fraser Heights neighborhood of Surrey, B.C., where three members of the Lee family were found dead inside a home.

Surrey RCMP officers found the body at the home on 112th Avenue near 156th Street, responding to a call for a body check just after noon.

Police do not believe there are any outstanding suspects.
