ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has revealed that kitchen land at Karachi Airport has been leased for the last 25 years which is still lying idle.
According to details, the meeting of Public Accounts Committee was held under the chairmanship of Rana Tanveer Hussain. It was revealed in the meeting that kitchen land has been leased at Karachi Airport since 1994 but the kitchen has not been constructed yet.
The audit report said that due to non-construction of flight kitchens, a loss of Rs 318 million was incurred in 25 years. Chairman Rana Tanveer asked why this loss has been continuous for so many years. If I or you had land, would it have been empty for 25 years? Together we have sunk the fleet of institutions.
Rana Tanveer said why not recover this amount from all former DJs. The Secretary Civil Aviation demanded that once a detailed report is taken, a detailed report will be submitted in a month after which the PAC will take a decision.
The Chairman asked who were the DJs during this period and he was told that several DJs have been in these 25 years.
Committee member Mushahid Hussain said that it was incompetence or negligence that no one has seen in so many years, to which another member Manza Hassan said that the simple answer to Mushahid Hussain’s question is to fly a plane and it is a matter of administrative ability. And that’s it.
The Secretary Civil Aviation said that the administration and flight operations are going to be separated.
The chairman of the committee said that who would estimate the loss of money for non-construction of kitchens on this land, to which the secretary said that it would be estimated by the SBP.
