Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen said that revolving credit and power sector is a challenge. Discus, PIA and Railways are in deficit. Want development in the housing sector. Importing ghee, sugar, pulses. It’s all getting expensive.
During a press conference in Islamabad, the Finance Minister said that emphasis should be laid on agriculture.
Shaukat Tareen said that efforts are being made to increase exports, unless the dollar is earned, how will the debts come down.
The finance minister said that in the current financial year, the debt has increased by 1.7 trillion dollars as against 3.7 trillion dollars last year.
He said that the current account has been in surplus for the last ten months. Rice and sugarcane production has increased. Exports need to be increased to increase the flow of dollars in the country.
Shaukat Tareen said that commercial banks do not even know how to lend to small and middle class businessmen, they take loans, they need to focus on SMEs.
