LAHORE: Police have arrested a gang involved in blackmailing citizens in a blast in Johar Town and also recovered extortion money.
According to details, SP President Hafeez-ur-Rehman Bugti while addressing a press conference said that a gang has been arrested for extorting millions of rupees by threatening the citizens to use their bank accounts in the Johar Town bomb blast.
The SP President said that the accused used to hack mobile numbers and get information of citizens from the bank. The accused threatened Muhammad Rafiq by calling him as an officer of a sensitive agency and blackmailed him saying that his account had been used by terrorists. Hafeez-ur-Rehman Bugti said that Green Town police arrested the accused with utmost skill. Among the arrested accused are Shafiq, Hussain, Abu Bakar and Rashid. Extortion amount of Rs 2.5 million was also recovered from the accused.
The accused had earlier received Rs 3 million from the same citizen. The accused had been committing incidents with different citizens for over a year with previous records.
A case has been registered against the accused and handed over to the Investigation Wing for further investigation.
