Makkah: A spiritual ceremony was held in the Ka’bah to change the shroud of the Ka’bah. The spiritual ceremony of changing the shroud of the Ka’bah is held on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah when the pilgrims reach Arafat. The shroud of the Kaaba is presented as a gift by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Covering the Kaaba, made of gold, silver and pure silk, costs millions of riyals. The work of changing the shroud of Kaaba started after Fajr prayers. The new shroud is made of 670 kg of pure silk.
150 kg of pure gold and silver has also been used in the preparation of the cover and Quranic verses have been engraved on it about the sanctity of the House of Allah and the obligation and virtue of Hajj.
The cover is 658 square meters in size and consists of 47 sections, each 14 meters long and 95 cm wide. The door of the Ka’bah, which is three meters above the ground, is six meters long and three meters wide. The shroud of the Ka’bah is hung on the door in addition to the four walls.
The cloth covering the shroud of the Ka’bah is called kiswah. Every year on the day of Waqf Arafa, the old kuswah is replaced with a new kuswah. The kuswah factory was established in 1927 by the order of King Abdul Aziz.
In addition, the pilgrims have returned to their respective places after completing the Tawaf-e-Qadoom in Mina last night. The Makkah Mukarramah Authority has made excellent arrangements for the pilgrims and the security forces have also been given the national language course of all Muslim countries.
