New Delhi: Indian Railways’ revenue from freight and passenger tickets rose 28 percent.

In the current financial year, Indian Railways’ revenue for the period till January 18 has risen to Rs 1.9 lakh crore. During the same period last year the revenue was Rs.1.48 lakh crore.

As freight traffic continues to increase, 2,000 freight coaches are added to Indian Railways every month. While the Union Budget has set a target of Rs 2.3 lakh crore revenue in the current financial year, 81 percent of this revenue has been generated so far. Therefore, it is also reported that the overall target will be achieved in a couple of weeks.

It is learned that the new revenue target will be set when the Union Budget is presented on February 1.

The revenue from passenger trains is Rs 52,000 crore. This was 51,000 in the last financial year 2018-19. Similarly, the revenue generated by freight train this year has increased by 15.6 percent to Rs 1.3 lakh crore.
