Jabalpur MP Rakesh Singh has been made the candidate by Bharatiya Janata Party from Jabalpur West Assembly. In this West Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party is losing the elections for two consecutive times. Congress’s Tarun Bhanot has defeated BJP MLA Harendrajit Singh Babbu twice.
Rakesh Singh’s political journey started from 2004. At that time he was the rural president of Jabalpur Bharatiya Janata Party. He had contested the Lok Sabha elections against the then mayor Vishwanath Dubey. Congress had given ticket to Vishwanath Dubey but in this election Rakesh Singh defeated Vishwanath Dubey by more than one lakh votes.
In 2009, Bharatiya Janata Party again gave Lok Sabha ticket to Rakesh Singh and Congress fielded Rameshwar Nikhra against him, in this election also Rakesh Singh defeated Rameshwar Nikhra by 106000 votes and Bharatiya Janata Party won the election.
In 2014, Rakesh Singh got the Lok Sabha ticket for the third time. Congress fielded Congress leader and Supreme Court lawyer Vivek Tankha against him, but in this election once again Rakesh Singh defeated Congress, and Vivek Tankha got 210,000 votes. Defeated by vote.
In 2019, Rakesh Singh was the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Lok Sabha for the fourth time, this time again Congress leader Vivek Tankha was in front of him but this time too Congress had to face defeat and Rakesh Singh got 826000 votes while Vivek Tankha got 3 lakh 71000. He lost by about 450000 lakh votes.
Rakesh Singh is currently holding the post of Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha. Even though Rakesh Singh is the shining star of Bharatiya Janata Party in Jabalpur politics, the stain of losing the 2019 assembly elections is still on him. In 2019, Rakesh Singh was made the state president of Bharatiya Janata Party of Madhya Pradesh and Bharatiya Janata Party had lost this election in the state.
