Rohit overtakes Guptill to become the first to hit sixes in T20
India captain Rohit Sharma smashed an unbeaten 20-ball 46 on Friday to become the leading six-hitter in T20I cricket during his team’s second T20I against Australia due to a wet outfield eight-over-a-side .
Rohit, the leading run-scorer in T20Is, went on to top the six-hitters chart in T20Is with sixes from New Zealand opener Martin Guptill. Chasing a target of 91 runs in eight overs, the Indian captain, who hit two sixes in the first over of Josh Hazlewood, now has 176 sixes in this format.
Guptill followed with 172 sixes and Chris Gayle followed with 124 sixes. Virat Kohli is the only other Indian batsman with more than 100 T20I sixes, currently sitting on 104 sixes in the format.
Rohit, who has played 138 matches, surpassed Guptill’s run tally in the format last month, the latter becoming the only male player to score more than 3500 T20I runs.
Suzy Bates is the only other batsman to have scored more than 3500 runs in the format at international level. Deandra Dottin and Sophie Devine are the only women cricketers to have recorded more than 100 T20I sixes.
