Surjeet Dev, Diamond Harbour: A married lover was taken to a hotel and killed due to tension over extramarital affairs. The judge of Kakdwip Additional District and Sessions Court (II) of South 24 Parganas ordered the death penalty for the accused. He ordered the death penalty on Wednesday.
The incident took place on April 11, 2018. The accused Samar Patra is a resident of Patibunia under Namkhana Police Station of South 24 Parganas. He had an affair with a thirty-two-year-old woman from Rajnagar, Namkhana police station. Samar went to Bakkhali of Fraserganj Coastal Police Station with the woman. Stayed in a hotel. Both the woman and Samar are married. The woman’s husband was in Kerala at the time on business. The woman also has two children.

The hotel manager and staff went to the hotel room the next morning to serve food. He saw the woman’s bloody body. They informed the police. The police came to investigate and found that a window of the hotel was broken. After killing the woman, the police found out that the killer escaped through the broken window. Amitabh Roy, the public lawyer of the court, said that based on the complaint of the hotel manager, Arpan Naik, the investigating officer of Fraserganj Coastal Police Station, started the investigation. After about a month and a half, accused Samar Patra was arrested.
The case was filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. On investigation, the police confirmed that Samarai had strangled the woman to death due to tension in her relationship with another woman. Several veins of the woman’s body were cut with a sharp knife and a piece of glass to ensure death. A total of 18 other witnesses, including forensic and fingerprint experts, testified. The judge found Samar guilty based on the evidence. A judge on Wednesday ordered the death penalty for Samar Patra, who was found guilty of murder. It has also been directed to carry out the execution order within the next one month. The judge, in announcing his verdict, described the incident as the rarest of brutal murders.
