Police say a man stole and crashed a truck in Bellingham, Massachusetts last month and fled before being arrested in Rhode Island.
The 23-year-old Ashland man, whose name has not been released, is believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the Jan. 14 incident, the Bellingham Police Department said.
1-800-GOT-JUNK truck was stolen out of Hopkinton. Video released by police Wednesday shows a man driving it nearly 80 miles per hour down Pulaski Boulevard before crashing into the back of another vehicle, shattering its rear windshield.
Police say the man continued driving and was later arrested by police in West Greenwich, Rhode Island.
“At the time, the driver of the truck admitted to Rhode Island police that he was under the influence of drugs,” Deputy Sgt. Stephen Daigle of the Bellingham Police Department told NBC10 Boston. “He had no memory of where the accident happened, but he felt he was involved in the accident.”
No one was seriously injured.
Authorities say the man will appear in Milford District Court next month.
