MUMBAI: As Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) is jostling with the state government to speed up completion of Mumbai’s first-ever underground metro-three project, the tunnel boring work of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro (among the 32.5 km long underground corridor) took off on Wednesday. 100 percent completed.
The tunneling work of the 42nd and final phase of the Metro-Three Corridor project was successfully completed at the Mumbai Central Metro Station on Wednesday. In 243 days, TBM Tansa-Ek has successfully completed the most challenging work of Up Line between Mahalakshmi Metro Station and Mumbai Central Metro Station. Under the third package of three metro lines, Mumbai Central, Mahalakshmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli metro stations are included. It was a challenging task as we had to work with other organizations including heritage body, municipality, metro lines, railway lines, including the oldest building in South Mumbai, but completing the work within the stipulated period is the biggest relief, said MMRC MD Ashrwini Bhide. Overall, 76 percent of the proposed project work has been completed. In spite of many challenges in this project, the work is done keeping in mind the security parameters. Also, due to the use of modern technology, there has been success in getting the work done quickly, said another official.
The project has been at the center of controversy over the Metro-3 car shed issue, in which recently the Supreme Court has also decided to hold the hearing of the main petitions against the Mumbai Metro project in the month of February next year, so it may take more time to complete the project. The official said.
