The Cooperative Department is going to take a big initiative in the state. Now the department is preparing to open petrol pump-gas agencies through village service cooperative societies. Applications for pumps have been sought from Village Service Committees till 27th September. However, the date has not been fixed as the work of the gas agency is the second priority. Applications for pumps will be on the online portal.

Guidelines have also been sent at the district level. There are 5554 registered Gram Seva Samitis in the state. Their number in Udaipur is 233.

Registrar of Cooperative Department, Meghraj Singh Ru says that petrol pumps will be allotted to whichever committee comes on priority under the rules. There will be three partnerships in the pump. The first is of the Cooperative Department, the second is of the Village Service Committees and the third is of the company from whose petrol and diesel will be purchased. However, the complete ownership will be of the Gram Seva Samiti.

The Petroleum Ministry has made necessary amendments in the rules for this. Let us tell you that recently, on the demand of reduction in VAT, petrol pumps of the state remained partially closed for three consecutive days from 13 to 15 September. Due to this, lakhs of people of the state including Udaipur had to face difficulties. Opening of pumps of committees will provide relief to a great extent from the problems faced by the general public due to monopoly of private petrol pumps in the petroleum market and frequent strikes.

Through the Cooperative Department, Village Service Committees will try their hand in five types of businesses. These will include petrol pumps, gas agencies, Jan Aushadhi Kendra, air tickets and insurance sectors. Apart from this, many other businesses can also be included in it. These days, the government has started providing facilities of hardware, digitalization and system integrator to all the Gram Seva Samitis. This may provide facilities to these committees in doing business in future.
