After a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) claimed that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) received Rs 291 crore from unknown sources during the financial year 2021-22, the opposition BJP and Congress in Odisha targeted the ruling party. Simple.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led BJD has received over Rs 291 crore from unknown sources during the financial year 2021-22, making it the country’s second largest regional party, according to an ADR report.

Unknown sources contributed 94.73 per cent of BJD’s annual income of Rs 307.29 crore.

Armed with the report, Mohan Manjhi, chief whip of the BJP in the Odisha Assembly, said the ADR report indicated large-scale corruption in the state government. He said that due to lack of transparency, such huge amount of benami funds are transferred to the account of the ruling party.
