The Supreme Court has reprimanded the gangster Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who is imprisoned in Mandoli Jail in Delhi. Thug Sukesh Chandrasekhar had filed an application in the Supreme Court to extend the time to meet a lawyer in jail, which the Supreme Court today rejected. A bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice Bela M. Trivedi said that Chandrasekhar has been granted visitation time as per the rules.
The Supreme Court sneered at Sukesh’s lawyer
The Supreme Court bench quipped, ‘You name the lawyers, we will ask the jail authorities to allow your lawyers to stay in jail… What kind of statements are you making in this court? You want privileges in prison?’
28 cases pending against Sukesh in 6 cities, involving more than 10 lawyers
The lawyer appearing for Chandrasekhar said that there are 28 cases pending against his client in 6 cities and more than 10 lawyers are involved. Chandrasekhar’s lawyer said that as per the jail rules, only 30 minutes is given to meet the lawyers in a week, which is not enough. He said his client’s rights were being violated.
Your request cannot be granted : Supreme Court
The Supreme Court then said, ‘There is no dispute that the time has been given to the applicant as per the jail rules. What you are requesting is extraordinary relief, which cannot be granted.’ According to jail rules, a prisoner is allowed half an hour to meet his relatives or friends twice a week. Chandrasekhar and his wife are in jail on charges of money laundering and cheating many people.
