Police foiled terrorist attack on Mianwali police station – Pakistan IG News

The Punjab Police foiled a terrorist attack on the Makerwal police station at Isakkhel in Mianwali district on Tuesday night. today news Reported.

According to the police, a group of 20 to 25 heavily armed militants attacked the police station but were forced to flee after heavy firing.

DPO Mianwali also reached the spot with additional force.

Emergency was declared in the district headquarters hospital.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar spoke to Police SHO Makerwal over phone and congratulated him for foiling the terrorist attack.

The attack came days after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a crowded mosque next to police lines in Peshawar.

The last major such incident took place in Peshawar last year when a suicide blast inside a Shia mosque in the Kocha-Risaldar area killed 63 people.

According to police sources, the suicide bomber was standing in the front row of the mosque during Zuhr prayer at around 1:40 pm on Monday. The imam (prayer leader) of the mosque was also martyred in the suicide blast.

Officials said they did not know how the bomber managed to enter the area, which is guarded by a series of checkpoints manned by police and military personnel.

Eyewitnesses and officials said at least 200 people were inside the mosque at the time of the incident.

Speaking to the media, Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ejaz Khan said, “We cannot say with certainty but there is a smell of explosives inside the mosque.”
