NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu will file nomination for the presidential election on Friday. While Yashwant Sinha, the candidate of some opposition parties, will file his nomination on June 27. In the past few days, support for Draupadi Murmu has steadily increased.
Apart from NDA’s ally JDU, the opposition party Biju Janata Dal has also come forward in his support. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has also announced his support to Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election.
National People’s Party President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have also supported Draupadi Murmu. In such a situation, it is clear that the candidature of Draupadi Murmu is overshadowing Yashwant Sinha.
Voting for the Presidential election will be held on July 18 while the results will be out on July 21. The last date for nominations is June 29.
JMM will also support
It is also reported that JMM, which is running the government with Congress-RJD in Jharkhand, may also support Draupadi Murmu’s name. JMM is among the 17 opposition parties that have agreed to field Yashwant Sinha. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has also stood by the decision to field Draupadi Murmu.

If Draupadi Murmu wins the presidential election, she will be the first tribal woman to be elected to the post. Earlier, she had also been the first woman governor of Jharkhand.
Who is Draupadi Murmu
Draupadi Murmu did her B.A. from Rama Devi Women’s College, Bhubaneswar. has done. Draupadi Murmu worked as a Junior Assistant in the Irrigation and Energy Department of the Government of Odisha from 1979 to 1983. He has also worked as a teacher at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Center in Rairangpur from 1994 to 1997.
Draupadi Murmu started her political career by winning the councilor’s election in Rairangpur in 1997 and also became the Vice Chairperson. She became the state vice-president of BJP’s ST Morcha in 1997.
From 2000 to 2004, she was an MLA from Rairangpur seat and during that time she was a minister with independent charge of several ministries including transport and commerce in the BJD-BJP government.
From 2002 to 2009, Draupadi Murmu was a member of the National Executive of BJP’s ST Morcha. From 2004 to 2009 also she was MLA from Rairangpur seat. She was the President of Odisha BJP ST Morcha from 2006 to 2009.
In 2010 she became the President of BJP in Mayurbhanj West district of Odisha and was re-elected to the post in 2013 and remained till April 2015. In 2015, he was made the Governor of Jharkhand.
