As soon as the news of the martyrdom of Colonel Manpreet Singh (41) reached Bhadonjia village in Mohali district of Punjab in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, there was mourning. The eyes of the villagers were moist. Everyone was talking about his bravery.

Family members told that Colonel Manpreet had displayed indomitable courage many times and saved sixes from the enemies. For this bravery, the Indian Army decorated him with the Sena Medal. On the other hand, mother Manjeet Kaur was crying badly after hearing the news of her son’s death. He told that Manpreet was smart in studies since childhood. He was educated in the Kendriya Vidyalaya near the Air Force Station in Mullanpur.

Colonel Manpreet Singh’s wife Jagmeet Kaur is a teacher in Morni. She lives in Sector-26 of Panchkula with seven-year-old son Kabir and two-and-a-half year old daughter Vani. Colonel Manpreet’s in-laws house is also in Panchkula. The family has not yet informed wife Jagmeet Kaur about her husband’s martyrdom. Meanwhile, after hearing the news of brother’s death, sister Sandeep Kaur has also left for her parents’ home.

Manpreet became Lieutenant Colonel in the army in the year 2003. In the year 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Colonel. After this he led many operations of the Indian Army to kill the enemies of the country. Younger brother Sandeep Singh told that Colonel Manpreet Singh was posted as second in command in the army from 2019 to 2021. Later he worked as a commanding officer.

The family has been serving the country for three generations.

Family members told that at around 5.30 pm on Wednesday, the army informed them about the martyrdom of Colonel Manpreet Singh. It was also told that the body of Colonel Manpreet will be brought to Mohali at 4 pm on Thursday evening. This was the third generation of his family who was serving the country on the borders. Colonel Manpreet Singh’s grandfather Sheetal Singh, father late. Lakhmir Singh and uncle Ranjit Singh were also in the Indian Army. After his father retired from the army, he worked as a security supervisor in Punjab University. After his death, his younger son Sandeep Singh (38) got the job of junior assistant there.
