Rail blockade has been going on at Purulia’s Kustaur railway station for more than 30 hours. Communication is practically dead. The entire Kustaur railway station is also almost under the besiegers. This rail blockade is a three-point demand, including the listing of the Kurmi tribe as a Scheduled Tribe, the listing of the Kurmali language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution. In this context, one of the protestors said, ‘Until I get any kind of commitment from the government, I will continue this blockade.’ As a result of the blockade, several trains stopped at the station. Not only the railway, but also the national highway, the representatives of the Kurmi community are protesting. The ultimate suffering is common people. In the words of one of the protestors while understanding the hardships of the people, ‘We never want the common people to face hardships. We are doing this blockade program under compulsion. We were listed as a Scheduled Tribe, but have been left out. But there is no reason to exclude us in any report from the government.’
On the other hand, as a result of the blockade of the National Road by the Kurmi Samaj in Jhargram, thousands of goods vehicles are standing on the National Road No. 6. One car after another standing on the road. Some have fruit, some have fast food. Most cars have foods that go bad after a certain amount of time. Due to the blockade, fast food-fruit is rotting inside the car. The vehicle’s belongings are being destroyed, besides the sudden blockade, the truck drivers are running out of food and water. ‘I am not getting food and water properly. Which cannot be eaten even after buying the price of the item’, said a lorry driver.
