#New Delhi: 8 cheetahs were brought from Namibia on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Cheetahs have been released in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park after decades of extinction in India.

BJP claims that Narendra Modi and the present central government are very aware of wildlife conservation. However, Congress objected to it. A report surfaced at a time when anti-ruling protests were on the rise over Cheetah’s achievement. The Center for Science and Environment publishes a report. According to that report, the allocation for the wildlife conservation sector has been reduced in every financial year from 2018-19 to 2020-21. The allocation for the wildlife conservation sector has been reduced by 47 percent in the previous financial years.

According to the report of the Center for Science and Environment, the amount allocated to the wildlife conservation sector in the financial year 2018-19 was Tk 165 crore. In the financial year 2019-20 the allocation was reduced to Tk 124.5 crore and in the financial year 2020-21 the allocation was further reduced to Tk 87.6 crore. In the financial year 2018-19, the allocation for tiger conservation project was Tk 323.2 crore. In the financial year 2019-20 it decreased to Tk 281.8 crore and in the financial year 2020-21 it decreased to Tk 194.5 crore.

In the financial year 2018-19, the allocation for the elephant conservation project was Tk 29.1 crore, in the financial year 2019-20 it was Tk 28 crore, in 2020-21 Tk 24 crore. For the past few days, the Congress-BJP feud has continued over the bringing of cheetahs. Congress Rajya Sabha Chief Constable Jairam Ramesh also took to Twitter to lash out at the Modi government’s Cheetah Prasasti.

Posting a letter, he said that the then UPA government had taken the initiative to bring Cheetah. He wrote on Twitter, “Through this letter the release of Cheetah in 2009 was mentioned. Our Prime Minister is an extraordinary liar. I could not publish the letter yesterday as India was busy with Joro Yatra.”
