Red alert issued in Punjab in view of Republic Day celebrations IG News

Chandigarh: On the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a red alert has been issued across the state today to ensure peaceful celebrations of Republic Day-2023 in the border state of Punjab.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav reviewed the security arrangements with all the CPs/SSPs of the state and asked all the District Heads to ensure adequate security arrangements in their jurisdictions. He also asked all Station House Officers (SHOs) and Gazetted Officers to remain in the field till the end of Republic Day celebrations.

He said that in addition to deputing senior officers from Chandigarh to review the security arrangements in important districts of the state, additional forces have also been deployed at sensitive places.

Giving more information, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who is personally present at Jalandhar to ensure proper security arrangements for the state-level Republic Day celebrations, said that DGP Punjab has also ordered extensive checking of vehicles and suspected persons. He said that all the inter-state and inter-district borders of the state have been sealed.

He also appealed to the people of Punjab to be alert at all times and said that if any suspicious person or object is seen then immediately inform the police. He said that people can inform the police on helpline numbers 112 or 181 in this regard.

It may be mentioned that Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit will hoist the national flag and take salute during the state-level Republic Day function at Jalandhar on Thursday.
