In its annual report, Freedom Network said that mobile network shutdowns and internet blackouts during the February 8 general election limited access to information and freedom of expression.

Freedom Network’s report states that electronic security and privacy bills will pose a threat to Pakistan’s digital economy.

According to reports, if passed, the bill would force Google, Facebook, and enforce institutional censorship.

According to the report, four journalists have been killed in Pakistan in the past 12 months, 104 incidents of harassment against journalists have been reported, and more than 70 legal notices have been sent to more than 200 journalists and bloggers.
