Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates, Britain sends arms to Canada
Kiev (Daily Pakistan Online) The dispute between Russia and Western powers over Ukraine has intensified. Britain has begun supplying anti-tank weapons to Ukraine, while Canada has reportedly deployed a contingent of its special forces in Kiev.
According to Al Jazeera TV, Russia has 100,000 troops stationed near the Ukrainian border. The United States and its Western allies say Russia is preparing to invade Ukraine, but Moscow has denied the allegations.
British Defense SecretIG Ben Wallace told parliament on Monday that the British government had decided to provide Ukraine with light anti-armor weapons. The first shipment of weapons left for Ukraine on Monday, accompanied by a small number of British troops who will soon be training the Ukrainian army in the use of weapons.
On the other hand, Canada has sent a contingent of special forces to Ukraine. Sources said that the special services group, in addition to assisting the Ukrainian government, would plan to evacuate Canadian diplomatic staff in the event of a full-scale war.
