Schoolboy crushed to death in lift crash – Tragic event in the wedding hall!
An eleventh class student from Kanchipuram district who was working as a waiter was killed when a lift rope fell on a wedding hall in Gummidipoondi. A case has been registered against 4 persons including the owner of the hall and 3 persons have been arrested in this connection.
There is a wedding hall owned by Jayapriya, daughter of former minister Jaikumar, in the Bedikkuppam area next to Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district. The wedding took place last night between a bride from Andhra Pradesh and a bride from Gummidipoondi. There, it is customary to cook food on the ground floor and take it to the dining area on the first floor via the lift. The same thing happened last night. At that time, when the food was being prepared and taken through the lift by large containers, 3 people were engaged in the task of serving food. Suddenly the lift rope fell off. Colleagues rescued those trapped in the lift by this somewhat unexpected accident.
At that time, the head of an eleventh class student named Sheetal (17) from Thammanur area next to Walajabad in Kanchipuram district was crushed on the lift rope and died on the spot. Also, food serving colleagues Vignesh and Jayaraman suffered leg fractures and were rushed to Gummidipoondi Kottakkara Government Hospital for treatment and later shifted to Chennai Government Stanley Hospital for further treatment. Later, Gummidipoondi Chipkot police seized the body of Sheetal, who died in the accident, and sent it to Ponneri Government Hospital for autopsy.
After that, Sheetal’s brother Dhanush (19) lodged a complaint at the Gummidipoondi Chipkot police station. In it, he stated that the lift was fitted in the wedding hall without obtaining proper permission, that the accident occurred due to overloading and not being properly maintained, and that the lift had no grill and doors, which was the cause of death. The complaint said action should be taken against Jayapriya, the owner of the wedding hall, manager Thirunavukarasu, supervisor Venkatesh and lift operator Kakan.
Gummidipoondi Chipkot police have registered a case against Jayapriya, the owner of the wedding hall, manager Thirunavukarasu, supervisor Venkatesh and lift operator Gakkan under Section 304/2 for negligent accidental death. . Jayapriya, the owner of the wedding hall, has not yet been arrested and is absconding, police said.
