A group of lawyers of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) met 8 members of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization lodged in Central Jail in Dibrugarh, Assam and said that they will fight their case in Punjab-Haryana High Court. All of them are associates of fugitive Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh of Punjab.

The eight were arrested during the Punjab Police crackdown on Sikh fundamentalist preacher Amritpal Singh and his associates. The panel of lawyers who met the prisoners on Monday included SGPC member and advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, advocate Mandeep Singh Sidhu, brother of Waris Punjab Day founder late Deep Sidhu, and advocate Rohit Sharma.

Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka said that the legal team of SGPC had received cooperation from the District Legal Services Authority, Dibrugarh Bar Association and local advocates in submitting an application to the authority of Dibrugarh Jail to meet the eight NSA detainees. We met all of them and assured them that we will fight their case in the Punjab-Haryana High Court.

During this, advocate Mandeep Singh said that all the detainees under NSA inside the jail have access to their fundamental rights as prisoners. They are housed collectively and have access to newspapers and television in prison. According to Bhagwant Singh Sialka, they do not have enough clothes. However, they have other facilities that other prisoners should have.
