Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq declared the February 8 elections rigged and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raj.
The Jammat central leadership held a meeting at its headquarters in Mansoora with Siraj at the helm to discuss the post-election scenario.
Siraj slammed the ECP and said it was supporting PML-N, PPP and MQM in the general elections. He asserted that there are no equal conditions for everyone in the elections.
He argued that the election results did not reflect true public sentiment. It was an injustice to the public and voters, added Siraj.
He declared that any government formed on the basis of rigged elections would have no political and moral validity.
The head of the congregation said that international organizations and the media raised questions about the fairness and transparency of the elections, which further increased polarization and destabilized the political situation.
Siraj blamed the ECP for failing to fulfill its constitutional responsibility. He called for the establishment of an independent and impartial commission of inquiry.
