According to the statement issued by the President’s House, in the letter, the President said that it is necessary to hold elections within 90 days after the dissolution of the provincial assemblies. The Supreme Court has ordered to hold elections in both provinces. And caretaker governments have asked heads of institutions to show incapacity to hold elections.
President Arif Alvi said that it is the duty of institutions to provide assistance in elections according to the constitution and law.
The President said that in order to avoid further complications including contempt of court, the Prime Minister should direct the relevant authorities of the federal and provincial governments to assist the Election Commission to conduct general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within the stipulated time.
He wrote that the media has highlighted the incidents of clear violations of fundamental and human rights. There was a need to bring them to the notice of the Prime Minister for the remedy and correction of such incidents. All concerned administrative authorities of federal and provincial governments should be directed to refrain from violating human rights.
