Strictly Star Joan Clifton to Open Waltham’s Miniature Railway Expansion

Strictly Come Dancing star Joan Clifton is heading to Waltham tomorrow to officially open her extended line of miniature railways.

The West End and Strictly Come Dancing star, who is the sister of Kevin Clifton, will open the extension on Sunday following an invitation from owners and operators of the Grimsby and Clethorps Model Engineering Society.

One of the professional dancers on BBC television hit shows for a few years, Joan raised her coveted glitterball trophy in December 2016 with celebrity partner, TV presenter Ore Oduba – with Louise Redknapp defeating brother Kevin Clifton in the runner-up spot.

Professional dancer, presenter, actress and singer is a former Ballroom Showdance World Champion, five-time British Champion, three-time Italian Champion, and Professional World Dancesport Games Champion.

She also won the Strictly Christmas Special in 2015 alongside musician, dancer, writer and McFly drummer Harry Judd, and played the title role of Millie Dillmount on the UK tour Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2017.

Model Engineers – a charitable corporate organization – has been working on expanding its track for almost 10 years. It added about 300 meters – or just under 1,000 feet – to the railway’s main outer circuit using a portion of the site adjacent to Briggsley Road, which was previously undeveloped. It offers visitors a long and varied ride of about 700 meters or about 750 yards.

Trains will run for the public from 12 noon to 4 pm on Sundays – with a break for the opening ceremony at around 2 pm. Public races, for both adults and children, take place every Sunday until the end of October, as well as on special event days.
