Team to promote boat tourism- Dinamani
Union Minister Chavananda Sono has said that a vigilance committee has been set up to explore ways to promote boat tourism in the country.
The India International Boat Tourism Conference was co-hosted by the Federal Ministry of Shipping and FICCI. The two-day conference was inaugurated by Central Shipping and Ports Minister Svananda Sona in Mumbai on Saturday.
He told reporters, “The federal government is taking steps to make India a priority in boat tourism. An executive committee and a committee have been set up to look into the promotion of boat tourism in the country.
The Executive Committee will be chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Tourism and the Deputy Chairman of the Department of Shipping. The committee is comprised of government officials and representatives of boat tourism companies. Both groups will work together.
The country’s boat tourism market is expected to increase 10-fold within the next decade. The Central Government will take full advantage of the potential to promote boat tourism in the sea and river areas. To this end, the government will take steps to strengthen the modern infrastructure.
A sea boat terminal is being set up in Mumbai. Similar structures will be set up at Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Mangalore, Kolkata and Goa ports.
During the event, Minister Sona unveiled the lighthouses at Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu and Ratnagiri in Maharashtra via video.
