New Delhi: Technical glitches on Friday forced the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the examinations at 50 centers across the country on the second day of the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG).
Some students also claimed that they had received communication from the NTA late in the night, informing that their exam scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to administrative and logistical reasons.
On Thursday, the first shift exam was canceled at some centers in 17 states, while the second shift exam was canceled at all 489 centers.
Several students complained that they waited only for two hours to be informed that the exams scheduled for the day had been cancelled. The candidates also appeared in panic as the agency did not issue the admit card for Sunday.
On the second day, the examination conducted in the first shift was postponed at 20 centers and in the second shift at 30 centers across the country.
“Technical issues were reported at some centres, following which on-ground reports were sought from supervisors and city coordinators. Based on their recommendations, a decision was taken to postpone the exam,” said a senior NTA official.
However, the agency did not announce any new date for the re-examination.
Ganika, who wants to pursue BA (Hons) Sociology in Delhi University, said, “I had come from Chhatarpur to the exam center in Noida Sector 64 (about 34 km). We were made to sit at the terminals. At 12 noon, we were told that the exam will not be conducted today as there are technical issues. Yesterday, my sister had come from Narela to this center (about 84 km) but had to return due to the same issue.
“This is the height of mismanagement,” she said.
Another CUET candidate Hemanshe Udar also shared a similar complaint. “I left my house in Dwarka Sector 51 (44 km) at 5.30 am to reach the center on time. But after about three hours we were told that there would be no paper today and we have to return on August 12. Till now it is very difficult to travel from here.
Her mother said it was difficult even for the parents as many of them had taken leave to work with their children.
The second phase of CUET-UG got off to a poor start on Thursday as technical and administrative issues forced the NTA to cancel the second shift exam at all 489 centers and postpone the first shift at some places in 17 states.
These examinations will be conducted on August 12.
The NTA has also postponed the CUET-UG in Kerala – due to the heavy rains to be held on August 4, 5 and 6, and said that the new dates will be announced later.
Though the agency had said on Thursday that the same admit card would be valid for those who could not take the exam, some students on Friday claimed that they were asked to tear them.
Roshni, who travels from the North Campus area, said, “I have to come for my Section 2 exam at the same center tomorrow. We have been assured that the exam will be conducted. But looking at the scenario of yesterday and today, it seems unlikely.”
The candidates whose exam is on 7th August kept tagging the NTA on the admit card issues on social media all day. Also, there are candidates who shared their admit cards on social media claiming that they have been allotted cities which they did not choose.
